Understanding how long it takes for one element to become another element through radioactive decay is essential to absolute dating.A half-life is the time it takes for half of the atoms in an isotope to decay. Two half lives is 11,460 years and three half lives is 17,190 years.

This topic looks at minerals and rocks and helps us to understand the different properties needed to identify them.Another scientist named Lyell took it a little further by dating some of the Earth processes.The Physical Setting: Earth Science is related to the field of science called Earth Science.Our focus during this unit will be on understanding the evidence the Earth presents to show us how the Earth existed in the past, and how it has changed to become the way that it exists today.During this unit we will explore topics related to absolute and relative dating techniques; and how these teach us about the Earth's history.
